Mary Michaels, a public school teacher of many years, began Grace Academy with five students on November 28, 1976. With the leading and guiding of the Holy Spirit, she began in a “trial and error” way to formulate Biblical and educational principles for Christian Education. Grace Academy started in the basement of Mary Michael’s home and grown through the years to a 35 acre campus.
Grace Academy is a Christian, non-denominational, traditional, co-ed school for Christian students in grades pre-kindergarten (K3 & K4) through the twelfth grade. Our ethnically diverse student body of over 300 students comes from 80+ churches representing several different denominations.
Our teachers are Christians who hold degrees in the areas in which they teach, as well as being certified by ACSI. Many staff members have graduate degrees in addition to many years of teaching experience.
Our curriculum is designed to prepare students for college or to successfully pursue employment in the workforce. Courses are structured to be academically engaging, to be pertinent to the challenges of today’s society, and to meet the graduation requirements of the State of Maryland.
Our facilities, built in January 2001 with an addition in June 2003, consist of 25 classrooms, three SMARTboard labs, a computer lab, a science lab, a large gymnasium, three athletic fields and a playground area. Grace Academy is located on a thirty-five acre campus west of Hagerstown on Route 58, just one mile from exit 7B off Interstate 81.
